KATHMANDU, OCT 14 -
In an attempt to raise voices against animal sacrifice and violence against animals during festivals, particularly in Dashain and Tihar, a group of youth representing Shri Krishna Pranami Youth Council (SKPYC) has initiated a nationwide campaign starting Saturday.
A rally was organised in the Capital on Saturday morning that started from Bhadrakali and passed through Shahidgate, Sundhara, Basantpur before it ended at Ratnapark.
According to Khil Prasad Ghimire, SKPYC chairperson, the tradition of animal sacrifice practiced in Dashain shows an inhuman act of people against animals who also have the right to live on their own.
The campaign aims to raise awareness on promoting meatless Dashain among the public across the country and encourage them to stop killing animals like goats and buffaloes in the name of religion, he said.
“By allocating budget for animal sacrifice during Dashain, the government is encouraging this tradition,” Ghimire said.
It is believed that more than 250,000 goats are slaughtered throughout the country every Dashain.
